Big Government Supporters Protest Big Privatization in NZ

Leftists in New Zealand who do not trust private enterprise to ever act in the best interests of the country took to the streets of Auckland New Zealand on Friday to protest selling off the assets of New Zealand’s power company. The Government wants to sell shares of the power company that they own to the public because they believe that a private company will do the job with less expense thus saving money to the consumer. Already the Prime Minister claims more than 285,000 people have pre-registered to buy shares.

However Keep Our Assets who believe that the people will be short-changed by the deal have already presented a petition of 392,000 signatures to Parliament against the sale and on April 27th took to the streets to protest.Check out the excellent video by MWSellwood MWSellwood Read an essay against the proposal by Miriam Michal, ANFS Spokesperson Emerita

JAKARTA KIDS STRUGGLE

Thin in Stature Tall in Talent

Today ABC Australia released a report by ELIZABETH JACKSON titled Jakarta’s tiny beggars and buskers.

Earlier this month                                 Jennifer BudimuliaJennifer Budimulia released a series of videos titled Jakarta Street Kids Got Talent. The first two videos in this article are from that series.

The third video we offer today was released last month and is about the street scene in Jakarta. Here us a trailer for that movie called A Jakarta Story byMuvilaTrailerIDMuvilaTrailerID Muvila.com

Our fourth video is a poem called Smedi Percil. It is recited by a young orator who makes his living reciting poems on the streets. I do not understand a word of it but his delivery is very moving, It is posted by theothermrjohnsuckstheothermrjohnsucks and was posted six years ago which would make this busker 22 years old now if still alive.

Here is a bit of his story posted by the videographer.

Smedi Percil by Slamet Widodo. As performed by Ujang, a street performer in Jakarta. Ujang is 16 years old and is of no fixed address. He was kicked out of school in 2005, and he left home last year when his mother died of an illness (sounded like HIV/AIDS, but he couldn’t remember the name of it). He makes his living by performing poetry and telling stories on buses and around places people congregate to eat on the streets of Jakarta.

CHARLESTON CULTURE

Market District Music Victory

STREET I AM SALUTES GLEN ORANGE

The effort to establish policies in Charleston favorable to a thriving cultural experience for tourists and locals alike overcame a major obstacle on Friday as the city council lifted its ban on street music in the popular Market district.

Glen Orange who led the fight against th ban has met repeatedly with city officials for months in order to establish a solution. His efforts have paid off and the city has agreed to work on a comprehensive formula which will allow people to enjoy the talent available in Charleston while still addressing the merchants concerns on limiting the amount of noise which some say inhibit potential sales.

The marketplace as a forum for ideas products and culture is now being given new life on the streets of Charleston.

Glen Orange is a performer and has been documenting some of the talent which daily expresses itself in Charleston.

Here are four videos from his YouTube channel.    Glenn OrangeGlenn Orange.            Street I Am first reported on the ban in this article

SIR PAUL SERENADES STREET CAR PASSENGERS

THEY THOUGHT HE WAS A BUSKER THEN THEY ALL REALIZED IT WAS ONE OF THE BEATLES HIMSELF SINGING THE THEIR GREATEST HITS

It was during his visit to New Orleans during the Super Bowl and Sir Paul jumped on the public transport street car with wife Nancy Shevel. He started singing Beatles songs while the passengers at first ignored him but soon, lo and behold, they realized it was Sir Paul McCartney himself having some fun. Then of course they all sang along to a once in a lifetime moment, Wish we had video of that but instead we can enjoy this news report from,
